NAYPYITAW, Myanmar - (AP) -- Opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has
reiterated her desire to become Myanmar's next president in front of
important international figures in business, politics and social
affairs.
Suu Kyi spoke Thursday at the Asian edition of the World
Economic Forum in the Myanmar capital. President Thein Sein also spoke
to tout his reforms in the previously military-ruled state.
Ex-political prisoner Suu Kyi and her National League for Democracy
party were frozen out of politics by the army regime that governed until
2011. In 2012, she and several dozen party comrades won parliamentary
seats in by-elections. However, a clause in the army-dictated
constitution would have to be amended for her to become president.
Suu Kyi repeated earlier declarations that honesty compelled her to acknowledge her desire to run for president.
