Religious Violence in Meiktila. Burma.
I am very much concerned by recent reports of deadly violence in Meiktila. Burma.
On behalf of the Parliamentary Friends of Burma as the chairperson, I offer my sympathies to the families affected by these acts of violence.
We call on all sides and especially the Myanmar authorities to ensure that the rights and safety of all residents are protected, further we ask the Myanmar government to bring to justice the perpetrators of this unrest.
Peace and Justice in Myanmar requires dialogue and cooperation between all ethnic, religious groups, government and civil society. It is the outmost importance that human rights, religious rights and freedom of the press are exercised around the world with out fear of persecution and violence.
The Parliamentary Friends of Burma are looking forward to working with the people of Burma to ensure that democracy and human rights are respected by all in Burma.
We call on the government of Canada to convey this message to the Myanmar authorities and work with them in order to achieve these goals.
